Ranake is the youngest son of Soen Goldwater, and younger brother of Drann. He is instilled with the Essence of Ambition; it is unusual for him to have inherited this trait, as he was not the first born. Though his personality is very different to Drann’s, the two look out for each other where possible, for they both suffer from their father’s disapproval. Ranake takes his Ambition into the wilderness, rather than his royal home, where he trains to become a great hunter and adventurer. He finds comfort in the forest, as his community shuns him for his differing looks as a Goldwater. When he begins to learn about the existence of the Other Worlds, he becomes infatuated with finding the truth about the history of his ancestors and his Universe as a whole. What will he discover if he dares to risk it all?
